Why do you think Rosemary is looking so comfortable?
It’s because she’s busy doing a very important job!
She’s looking after some eggs for our neighbour, they are due to hatch on the 16th May 🙂
All that is needed to keep chickens happy is a barrow full of weeds! 🙂
How come chickens all want to dust bath in the same place! 🙂
Eeeeeep! We have just installed four new chickens to our garden.
I’ll take a better picture later, I just couldn’t wait to show you! :-
Rhoda, Eva, Agnes and Clara 🙂
Well that wasn’t the day I had planned! Instead of Christmas stuff (My department) we’ve been having to take serious measures to protect our chickens, having lost three and had one injured over the past four nights to ratty and his friends. So, our remaining 13 hens and Hugh have been temporarily rehoused in a new secure fenced in area right in the middle of the garden, well away from rat territory and we’ve been handy with the rat bait and bait boxes. If you’re a rat, you’re on notice to avoid Hillside Lodge garden!!
It is sad that the deceased chickens included Ziva one of the very first to come and live with us.
R.I.P. Ziva beautiful girl! 😦
Well, I haven’t been here for a while, sorry if you’ve missed me! I have been enjoying my simple life, teaching myself about natural dyes.
I had time this morning though to pop to our local market and I picked up these two lovely things for myself.
£1.40 for the two – I’m still on form! 🙂
A couple of days ago we were given the opportunity to adopt three more chickens, how could we resist!
Meet – Alaska
We have 16 Chickens now (+ one cockerel) most of them are laying, so pay for themselves through the sale of eggs. I’m very happy about the additions to our family 🙂
Out on a walk at the weekend, we came across these little chaps. I particularly like the one which looks like it’s been drawn on with a black marker pen!
Its all very exciting on cleaning out day!
We were delighted today to go and collect eight new chickens and a large chicken coop kindly given to us by a friend. Thanks to our lovely neighbour who is a man with a van, this was done quite quickly and easily!
Here’s a group shot!
I’m very happy about this, there’s something so comforting about chickens:-)
